5/29/2023 0 Comments Orange takano![]() ![]() ![]() This series will stick with me because of how grounded and sensible Kakeru's struggle with his mental health felt. +Sadness, ruminating regret, and familial depression are fortunately handled in a much more sensitive and measured manner than the time travel mechanism, which is obviously much better than if vice versa were the case. It seemed like she was also in a bad mental place. The series could have also fleshed out Ueda a little bit more. Kakeru and Naho could have used a few more character quirks. (Also, see Netflix's Dark for another example of poorly handled time travel exposition that distracts and weighs down the story with nonsense.) ![]() They can just be confused and accept that miracles are happening. If you are working on a time travel story in which the science of the time travel is not directly related to the plot, please, your characters don't need to actually cite physics technobabble. Guessing correctly that there was a black hole in the Bermuda triangle was so hokey that it momentarily jarred me out of a really moving part of the story. ![]()

5/29/2023 0 Comments Sarge by Bey Deckard![]() ![]() The wound’s gotta hurt like hell, but this is the Sarge. Up until this point, the Sarge’s been staring off to the side, his face tense, not saying a word. HeBA, or Hexa-Benactryl Almeanotroxene, is a synthetic compound that’s part homegrown and part alien the fact that the shit is bright fucking pink gets me thinking that the squinters and grinders that make it were actively hoping for the nickname. I jab it into his neck and sit back to check if any of this goddamned blood is my own while I let the painkiller work its magic. I pop open a compartment in my hip and take out a pin-sticker of hubba bubba. There’s nothing I can really do about it he’ll have to get it replaced at the chop n’ change at HQ, and that’s a half-hour hike that might as well be on the other side of the planet as long as the sun’s still up. Thankfully, it’s cauterized some, so the bleeding is minimal. ![]() His left eye’s completely gone it’s just a big, wet red hole where the charge went in. Down on my knees in mud made from equal parts dirt and blood, I survey the damage done to Sarge. ![]() ![]() ![]() The critically acclaimed artist François Baranger was fascinated early on by Lovecrafts works that explore the darkest corners of human imagination. Why does our society find this choice so hard to accept?” If having no children by choice was part of the norm, it would mean that those who make this choice would be members of a widely-accepted group and that we as a society have accepted their choice. Octomom anyone? And that’s just a few examples. culture, in which we obsess about having children, throw new parents a million baby showers, and put families on TV who have 8 children or more. Carroll is talking specifically about U.S. The Baby Matrix is about pronatalism, or our society’s need to insist that having children is the right thing for everyone, and that people should have all the babies they want (and they should want lots of them). ![]() Where books like Families of Two, or Two is Enough by Laura Scott, are aimed at people deciding not to have children, The Baby Matrix is aimed at everyone else. Carroll asked me to review her latest book, I jumped at the chance. She wasn’t trying to be objective rather, she sought to provide a point of view you won’t see reflected in our media anywhere. Her book interviewed more than thirty couples who could be described as living fulfilling, happily married lives without children. When I was thinking about not having children, in my early thirties, Laura Carroll’s book Families of Two was one I found helpful - and believe me when I tell you there weren’t a lot of resources out there. ![]() ![]() Delivery with Standard Australia Post usually happens within 2-10 business days from time of dispatch. You can track your delivery by going to AusPost tracking and entering your tracking number - your Order Shipped email will contain this information for each parcel. ![]() Tracking delivery Saver Delivery: Australia postĪustralia Post deliveries can be tracked on route with eParcel. Even after their move, the Taylor family took long car trips to the South, and Mildred's experience of this environment provided the settings for her future novels. He chose Toledo because he already had a large network of friends and relatives there. ![]() ![]() Several outbreaks of racially-motivated violence occurred in the Jackson area around September 1943, and Taylor's father decided to seek a new life for his family in the North. Mildred Taylor remained there until graduating from the University of Toledo in 1965. However, only three weeks after their daughter's birth, the Taylor family moved to Toledo, Ohio. She later said she "was born in a segregated city in a segregated state in a segregated America." The Taylors had lived in Mississippi since the time of slavery. Mildred Taylor was born in Jackson, Mississippi on September 13, 1943, to Wilbert Lee and Deletha Marie (Davis) Taylor. ![]() |
